Vijitha Tharmalingam

Director of Operations

Vijitha Tharmalingam has considerable experience in the nonprofit sector for the past 25 years in Canada. Along with providing care for her daughter with a physical and mental disability, she has been working extensively with individuals with disabilities, from an early age in Sri Lanka and now in Toronto. Along with her voluntary service, she is the manager of the South Indian classical musical academy, Aum Shri Sai Gana Sabha.

Nimalan Balachandran

Co-Founder

Nimalan Balachandran is the CEO of an online tax preparation software, CloudTax. As the founder of CloudTax, he manages a development team located in Canada, India, and Cambodia, and built a NETFILE certified web- and mobile- based income tax filing platform for Canadians.  Along with his background in accounting and finance from Seneca College, Nimalan has worked at Canada Revenue Agency and Sun Life Financials as a Financial Advisor in the past.

Selvamanikam Bhrapakaran

Co-Founder

President

Selvamanikam (Bhrapa) Bhrapakaran was born with perfect vision and lost the sight of his left eye at the age of 3 due to optic nerve problems. At age 10 he became blind after being accidentally struck with a stick. He is an employee of Scotiabank for more than 10 years. In the past, he was the Vice-President of the Organization of Canadian Tamils with Disabilities (OCTD), and a co-chair member of ERDCO, and currently volunteers with BALANCE.

Mano Chandrakumar

Board Chair

Mano Chandrakumar received his undergraduate degree in Human Biology Specialist from University of Toronto and his Master’s degree in Clinical Research from University of Liverpool, UK. He is actively involved in various research projects related to eye movements at SickKids hospital. His vision and passion is to serve everyone with compassion. Since ATI’s first annual function, he has been exploring the possibilities of improving the service we provide to the differently abled individuals.

Arani Tharmalingam

Vice-President

Arani Tharmalingam completed her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Physical
Geography, and Bachelor of Education, from the University of Toronto. Arani is qualified in Special Education from the Ontario Institute Studies in Education. Currently, she teaches adult learners at Durham District School Board. With over 10 years of experience working with special-needs children from various not-for-profit organizations, and along with her professional knowledge in project management, she serves as the Program Coordinator at ATI Foundation.

Board of Directors are 100% voluntary

Akshaniya Mohanrajah

Director of Corporate Development

Akshaniya Mohanrajah is currently in her final year of pursuing a double major in neuroscience and human biology at the University of Toronto. She is also a research assistant in the neuroscience and psychology department. She has been apart of the ATI foundation team for the past two years and now serves as a program facilitator. Her future goals are to pursue a career in clinical neuroscience and research to aid in reducing the stigma around mental health as well as empowering individuals with developmental disabilities.

Gajani Baskaranathan

Director of Public Affairs

Gajani Baskaranathan has completed her Bachelor of Arts in Global Health, specializing in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from York University. She is an active member in the community and has great passion in working to support visible minorities and marginalized populations. She also serves as a director on the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance. Gajani is currently developing a rehabilitation centre for individuals with disabilities in an Indigenous community.

Mathangi Thavendirarajah

Director of Event Management

Mathangi Thavendirarajah is currently studying at Ryerson University for Bachelor of Arts, Social Work. She is extremely passionate about working within the mental health sector as she has personal experience of having a brother diagnosed with Autism. She has completed her student field practicum at both Community Living York South and Canadian Mental Health Association. Mathangi is also a part time event planner and has her own decor business, Creative Touches by Mathu.
